One of the most popular landmarks in Punxsutawney and in Western PA is Gobbler’s Knob. It is the site of the annual Groundhog Day celebration and where Punxsutawney Phil makes his prediction every February 2nd. Thousands of visitors come to Gobbler’s Knob on Groundhog Day as well as throughout the rest of the year. The trail is ½ Mile in length with informational and educational signage as well as Metal Art Displays.
The Mahoning Shadow Trail is a 15-mile reclaimed railroad-bed located in southern Jefferson County. The beautiful wooded trail “shadows” the Mahoning Creek. Except for a one-mile paved section that runs through the Punxsutawney Borough, the trail surface is crushed limestone. The trail is open to pedestrians and non-motorized vehicles. Maps are available at the Punxsy Chamber of Commerce & Souvenir Shop.
Punxsutawney Phil can be viewed here from dawn until dusk every day!
Punxsutawney Phil lives here in a climate controlled environment. The rock structures that are in the back are manmade burrows. These burrows are Phil’s favorite place to sleep. Take pictures and share them with us!
